ServiceKathryn drummed her fingers over the wooden counter, trying to think of something to write. She was sending her parents nearly twenty dollars; she couldn't just stuff it in an envelope and slap a stamp on it. Snuffling, she passed a hand over her hair. Fiddling with the pen attached to the counter with a ball-chain, she sighed and let her shoulders slump. Ignoring her rumbling stomach, she scribbled out a short note; telling them everything was fine, she was fine. She hoped everyone down there was doing well, hoped this money helped enough and that she would be sending more in another two weeks. Sliding the slip of paper into the envelope, she fanned out the kale she had earned. Two Abrahams, eight Washingtons and five quarters. All for her family and none for her. Well, she had kept one quarter. But that was just in case some emergency. Stuffing the money in, she sealed it and scanned the front to make sure that address was all correct. Licking the prepared stamps, she added them to the corner and handed it off to the attendent, passing him a smile as she did. "I'll be real safe, Miss," he assured her. He was cute; young, with dimples. She nodded her acknowledgment before heading out. She was late now. Brennan didn't usually care though, so that was all right. Setting off into the just-darkened streets, she let out a sigh, already calculating how much she would hopefully make that night and what she could do to get more.
