Bess had always done what was expected of her. She was the youngest of her family and only the second girl. Her dad was a cop and a detective, same as her grandfathers, on both sides, and great-grandfathers, and great-great-grandfathers... Bess' entire family had been the picture of perfection and she happily obliged to that image.
As her brothers grew up, each one fell into the police academy as their legacy decreed. Josephine fell for one of Lawrence's friends within the force and got married. A year later they had a little boy and a year after that, a little girl. Bess knew she should do the same by her sister's example and started paying better attention to the friends her brother's brought around for dinner.
Finally, one struck her fancy. Drew Buchanan. After a proper courtship of a year and some change, he proposed. The rest of that second year, and they were married; that was just five months ago. And now they're talking about kids. Gotta have another boy to extend both the Buchanan and O'Malley tradition...
But recently, Bess went out with a distant friend from school; a self-proclaimed flapper. She took Bess to Malone's speakeasy and once she got past the expected moral outraged, Bess loved it. She loved everything about it. She loved the fast, rag-timey, jazz music. The liquor, the flirting, the dancing, oh gosh the dancing!, the men, handsome and dashing and oh-so-charming... And now she doesn't know what she wants: what she thought was her dreamlife all along; or the thriving exhiliration she found in the illegality of the speakesy.

Bess is a soft-spoken, nervous individual. She doesn't like conflicts or getting into fights and will avoid them at any cost; usually by succumbing to the other person. Standing up for herself is another prblem. She's happiest when everyone around her is getting along easily and with harmony.
Now, though, this dichotomy has emeged. Bess finds she loves letting loose. She loves being loud and active and wild and free. That different woman that she slips into in the speakeasy is spilling over into her home persona and that could certainly cause some problems...
