"Don't be makin' fun of Uncle Jesse so much," cam Mattie's sleepy input. She didn't open her eyes or lift her head to have her say though.
"It's all outta love, JJ, you know that," Benjamin teased gently. "But you heard the little dame, we'll lay off ya." He tossed a smile to his brother before heading down.
"I've carried worse."
"Yeah, easy for you to say," Benjamin quipped, "you ain't got a babe on your back. I'm carrying a double load, huh?" He chuckled, jiggling Mattie a little, but not enough to wake her up. He held up once inside the tunnels, waiting for them to catch up and bring the light too.

Brothers. Rolling his eyes, he started off, cutting in front of Benji to lead the way. They wouldn't make it far without a lantern. And knowing them two, they wouldn't know how to get there without his lead--too many dead ends and false corridors. Doing the pattern in his head again--though he really didn't have to think about it--he followed in the steps he'd already taken, not wanting to sink any further into the mud.
The door seemed to reappear, rather than them approaching it. He yanked it open, letting the two others in first. They were, after all, doing most of the manual labor.
"Thanks, fellas," he sighed, shutting the door behind them.
Once everything was on the up and up and in its place, he sat down at one of the tables, putting his feet on it. "Either one of you got anybody special comin' tonight?"

He knew, but smiled at Mattie gently, giving her a slight wink only she would notice. He huffed, lifting the carriers a little higher in his arms as they took through the last home stretch. He could see the outline of the door now, and smiled, muttering a soft thank god as Brennan opened it.
"Thanks, fellas,"
He shook his head, placing the two crates near the door, closing it behind Benji. "No prblem, boss. Anythin' else ya need done?" He asked, standing there with his arms crossed over his chest. He wasn't too fond of just sittin' around doin' nothin.
"Either one of you got anybody special comin' tonight?"
Special? He perked a brow, a wry smile forming over his lips. "I'm thinkin' Miss Scarlett might stop by. But now ya got me curious, Brenn. Who's your special 'person' that's comin'?"

Benjamin cast a glance to his brother. "She your 'someone special' or somethin'?" he asked, raising a skeptical brow.
Taking a seat at one of the nearby chairs, he shifted Mattie to be sitting in his lap. She made a soft mewling noise and cuddled closer to his chest. Benjamin grinned and ran a soft hand over her hair. "And I second Jesse's question: who's your special dame comin', Brenn?"
He himself didn't really have anyone he was too invested in. He couldn't afford to be, with Mattie. Couldn't let her get too attached to some lady only to have her ditch him or other way 'round. He liked Audrey well enough and Mattie seemed to adore the woman, but it wasn't at the point of anything happening, at least not yet.

He leaned against the front of the bar counter, arms folded and expression vacant. "You both know well enough Mr. Malone doesn't have anyone special. Too many of 'em to keep track of to have that one special person. Don't really want one, anyway." That would keep him too committed, and he didn't have the time or desire for that. His life was still about him right now. He didn't want someone at his heels constantly.
"I'm thinkin' Miss Scarlett might stop by."
Brennan scoffed, looking away. Yeah, Jesse would be looking forward to that. Scarlett wasn't a regular yet, but she was well on her way. He didn't know her that well, but she was on the up and up. He had, after all, interviewed her to get in in the first place.
To keep himself busy, he motioned to Benji while swerving behind the counter to make himself something to drink. "You can put the little lady on the couch if you want, Jakeman. Either of you want somethin'?" He opened his hand to the spigets.
